‘The Daily Show’: Larry Wilmore comments on Trevor Noah hire, early controversy
While we have heard plenty at this point from Jon Stewart about the recent hire of Trevor Noah has host of “The Daily Show,” we have interestingly not heard very much at all from the man he will be sharing an hour with on Comedy Central starting at some point in the future: Larry Wilmore. Larry is the former panelist of the Comedy Central series who is now the host of “The Nightly Show,” a really underrated half-hour that has improved almost since the very beginning.
It makes sense of course to get some comments from Wilmore about his future late-night partner, but what surprised us most about his comments to The Hollywood Reporter at an event all about “black-ish” (a show he executive-produces) is the fact that these two have not even met. Wilmore was gone, of course, from “The Daily Show” at the time that Noah arrived. Wilmore also commented briefly on some of controversy surrounding Noah’s hire, after it was revealed that he had tweeted many jokes in the best deemed either anti-Semitic or sexist:
“All that is going to blow over. And like Jon said, people are either going to embrace him or they won’t. That’s how television works. He can really go out and prove himself even more now because it’s hard to follow Jon Stewart.”
We do feel like there may be some out there who judge Noah based on those comments, but it is a big country. The most vocal people are typically the ones in opposition, and we’ve yet to see who everyone else could be.
We will have more all about this hire as we get closer and closer to Jon Stewart’s finale on the show, but for now, head over here for a really funny piece about the start of election season.
