ABC’s ‘Scandal’ season 4: Scott Foley reacts to shock ending
Let’s face it: Did you see the ending of tonight’s new episode of “Scandal” coming? We’ve seen many surprise deaths on Shonda Rhimes series before, but we’re not sure many of them can measure up to what happened to Jake Ballard tonight.
In the closing minutes of the episode, Rowan seemingly set forth a plan to have Jake eradicated, and in addition to his apparent death, we were just as shocked to see that it was Russell who did the killing. We’re at least assuming that he is gone, however hard that may be. The promo after the episode strongly suggested that Jake is dead, as does the tweet below from the actor behind the part in Scott Foley, who was really phenomenal in the part for the entire time he was on the show.
We love Foley, but can’t the guy just survive on a Shonda series at some point? First, there was the story with his character and Teddy on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and now this. It’s ultimately quite a lot to take in still, and we’ll probably need some time to sort this out. If Jake is indeed dead, the big thing to take note of is how this is going to impact Olivia and the other Gladiators moving forward. Also, we have to take stock of what this does to the attempt to take down B613. Without him alive, it certainly weakens the case.

I like Scott Foley. He is a brilliant actor. But I do not like the character he portrays. Maybe it was the way he was introduced to the viewers, but blame that on the writers. Also, there is no chemistry between Scott Foley and Kerry Washington and the character of Jake has served his purpose. She used him. Just like she used Edison and Russell. They are all a temporary replacement for the one man that she truly loves. I guarantee there will be a lot more fans that will be done with the show if Jake continues into Season 5, then there would if he leaves by seasons end!

Shonda needs to take into consideration all of the fans that watch her show that pull for a character that has redeemable traits. I have been a huge Scandal fan from the beginning and have recruited so many fans for this show. If Jake is killed off I am done with this show. I agree with others in that Jake was one of the main reasons I watched. Olivia is becoming an unlikable character with her casual sex escapades, rantings, etc. She has always been so in control when handling clients. We loved Olivia because of her cool manner of handling her life and lives of others. She has thrown away the one man that could have saved her and if Shonda has thrown that character off the set I won’t be reserving Thursday night any more. I will miss what used to be my favorite show if Jake is gone. The other characters are really not worth the time. What makes fans watch a show is our fondness of characters that we want to pull for. If Jake is gone I really don’t have anyone to pull for anymore. Shame on you, Shonda!

Jake is not dead, unfortunately. Even so, season 4 was horrible. Olivia is all over the place. I almost wished she got killed off. She is unstable and annoying.

I sure hate to see Jake go, one of the best characters on the show, he has been no angel but I think he really fell in love with Olivia and he worked to rescue her only to have her come home and push him aside. I wish they would have Olivia and her father stop with the fast speaking speeches, no one could talk like that all the time, it would be tiring. I like the Vice-President, she is actually a redeeming person in the White House, I just hope they do not pollute her too.

Very disappointed. I am a huge Jake Ballard fan. Won’t be the same now. Im over Fitz and his sick love towards Olivia. Please bring Jake back!!!

I had the feeling all along that there was more to Russell than meets the eye. I don’t think they will kill off Rowan in a hurry since he was the only actor to win an award for the show.
Yes, I too am very disappointed in Jake’s death. I sometimes think the writers are getting themselves twisted in the plots that they are twisting for us.

I’m with you both. I’m done with the show if Jake is gone. I only tune in every week hoping to see him. And you know what’s worse? We’ve been waiting weeks now for some good Jake storyline and this is what they do? This isn’t how you treat fans. I truly hope he’s not gone but if it’s true, goodbye ShondaLand.

I am so disappointed! I’m right there with lses! I’m not watching tnis show ever again! Jake represented true love! Olivia was an idiot to take him for granted! I don’t understand how her character goes from being a side chick to a home wrecker to being promiscuous! Up and down, back and forth between fitz and jake, only to choose neither one! And why can’t fitz be faithful to mellie, now that he knows all she went through? I’m sick and tired of my favorite characters being killed for no good reason!!!!! No good storyline!!!!!! Why can’t we kill rowN? How can one man have soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much power? Unless jake comes back and scott is just joking when he tweeted this goodbye, i am not watching this show again! Shonda, how could you do it to js? Don’t u care about the fans????!!!!!
