‘Silicon Valley,’ ‘Veep’ renewed for third, fifth seasons by HBO

HBO is not one to waste time when it comes to renewals, at least provided that your show is drawing good ratings and/or critical acclaim. One day after both “Silicon Valley” and “Veep” premiered with their new seasons, it was confirmed that each will return to the network for additional seasons next year. This was confirmed by network head Michael Lombardo in a statement:

“VEEP and SILICON VALLEY are terrific series, and I’m immensely proud that they will return to HBO next year … Along with ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver,’ both of which have already been renewed for 2016, they give HBO a stellar Sunday night like no other.”

This is without a doubt the best time of the year to be HBO. “Game of Thrones” is their most successful show in history, and these are two of the network’s top-rated comedies. Both have devoted followings, and are extremely funny to go along with it.

The “Veep” news is mostly notable because it was revealed over the weekend that the show’s creator Armando Iannucci is leaving after this season. It has nothing to do with the success of the show, though, and more that he wants to spend more time not having to travel from one continent to the next. “Silicon Valley” was a foregone conclusion. It’s the best work from Mike Judge in years, and it is also one of the most original programs that HBO has had in this comedy genre in some time.

“Game of Thrones” has already been renewed, so there is no need to worry about its future in the slightest.
