ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: Carly Rae Jepsen joining Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion in ‘SNL’ ‘spoof’ episode
This is certainly something we did not see coming, but find at the same time pretty hilarious: When was the last time that we got a chance to see the musical guest on “Saturday Night Live” go and play a musical guest on a fake edition of the show for another network? We know that “SNL” has been around for 40 years and it’d take a solid week to do all the proper research here, but it feels doubtful that this specifically has been done before.
In a way, this makes some of the following in the context of “Castle” all the more exciting. According to Entertainment Weekly, Carly Rae Jepsen will guest-star as herself during the penultimate episode of the season entitled “Dead from New York,” which is the same one featuring Jaleel White as a cast member / possible suspect. There will be a murder at a show fittingly titled “Saturday Night Tonight,” which is the most redundant name we’ve ever heard unless this show is not actually airing on Saturday night. Jepsen will perform “I Really Like You,” the same song that she performed on the show this month, and will also have a little dialogue.
We’re glad that there is an episode of “Castle” coming up that is so silly and comedic, mostly because of the fact that this will mark a pretty wonderful chance to get some laughs before the season and possible series finale. Let it be known that we’re still leaning towards a renewal, but we do wish negotiations with Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion would speed up a little.
Ultimately, what you should remember is this: If either actor actually wanted to leave the show, it would have been announced before now. No actor wants to blindside a cast, crew, or audience like that. A good example is Nina Dobrev and “The Vampire Diaries”; while fans are just now finding out she is leaving, the folks on the show have known for some time.
What do you think about Jepsen joining the show in this capacity; will you enjoy it even if there is some at-times annoying cross-promotion?
