‘The Americans’ season 3 spoilers: How Philip, Elizabeth could react to stunning reveal

The revelation that landed at Paige’s feet on “The Americans” this past week has really been all season in the making; from the end of season 2 onward, it felt like it was only going to be a matter of time before she started to piece together that her parents were far more than she initially realized. She was their child, so of course she was going to interpret the world in the way in which they would want her to.

So what happens now that her world has been turned on its axis? This is something that will be a theme of the rest of the season, but let’s just say that Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys’ characters are not pretending like they are imagining that Paige knowing the truth about their covert operations will be okay. They realize that some drastic consequences could come with their big reveal, and are preparing themselves for it. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Joe Weisberg had the following to say:

“Just because this is their daughter doesn’t mean they have any illusions … They’re not looking in the short term for any positive resolution of this. They know tough times are ahead.”

There are a variety of times when we have heard the word “game-changer” bandied about, and the vast majority of the time, it often is overused. This is probably not the case here. This legitimately could be the sort of thing that shifts the entire fabric of the show, and if something happens to Paige as a result of this reveal, how will Philip and Elizabeth handle it then?
