‘Downton Abbey’ season 6 spoilers: Is a movie under consideration?
Is it possible that “Downton Abbey” could follow the “Community” prophecy and have six seasons and a movie? As the ITV series is preparing to wind down with its sixth and final season, we are starting to hear more and more that this could be a possibility once filming wraps. Then again, at this point the producers do seem to be considering a wide array of possibilities.
Following the big reveal earlier this week that the show is nearing the end, executive producer Gareth Neame took part in a conference call. It is here that, according to TV Guide, he said the following about seeing the likes of Bates, Anna, and some of the other characters in a more cinematic medium in the future:
“We would be very interested in that. It is definitely something that we’re contemplating … But I can’t confirm that it’s definitely going to happen.”
Obviously, Julian Fellowes has experience doing feature films, but we don’t really want one in this case. We don’t really love shows that decide that they need a different medium all of a sudden to tell a story. Plus, this show basically has a movie every Christmas already, given that these episodes tend to run around an hour and a half without commercials.
What we would personally prefer here is some sort of spin-off show, which could revolve around the likes of Tom in Boston starting a new life. Allen Leech has leading-man material, and this could keep the franchise going in a different way. Why not give something like this a try.
