‘Blue Bloods’ season 5 spoilers: ‘Backstrom,’ ’24’ actor scores guest spot

Let’s start this “Blue Bloods” season 5 article off with the bad news: There is no new episode of the show airing on CBS tonight. What is the reason for that? It is as simple as the fact that there are NCAA tournament games on the air, and the show is therefore not going to be coming back until Friday, April 2. That means that we will be getting a couple of weeks off, but hopefully the wait will be worth it.

What we at least have for you today to help you get through the waiting process is the latest batch of casting news! According to a new report from AOL, Dennis Haysbert of “24,” “Backstrom,” and the Allstate commercials will be guest-starring on an upcoming episode of the CBS crime procedural. As for who he will be playing, think along the lines of Chief Donald Kent. He is an old friend of Frank’s, and we presume that he will show up at a time that makes sense for the present action of the show.

One of the difficult things about reporting casting news for this show is mostly figuring out a way to have a discussion about it work in context. Almost every episode of the show is different in its own way, and the majority of them do not connect to anything else.
