‘Community’ season 6 spoilers: Dan Harmon lies out groundwork for upcoming episodes
Come Tuesday, “Community” is finally going to return to TV! However, it is not necessarily going to be doing so via conventional means. the show is heading over to Yahoo, where it is going to have a chance to tell at least 13 more stories from the wacky world of Greendale Community College. Sure, the world is not completely the same anymore, given that John Oliver, Jonathan Banks, and Yvette Nicole Brown are no longer going to be major parts of the story. Changes are coming, and this has been this way for the show ever since season 3 when Dan Harmon was first dismissed. There has at least been one major change that has taken place every year.
Luckily, Harmon is back now, and we’ve also got new cast members in Keith David and Paget Brewster. The latter is going to be particularly important as Frankie, a woman who comes in to help finish the job of “saving Greendale. This is what the whole story was about in part last season. So in describing this particular storyline to The Hollywood Reporter, Harmon had the following to say both about her and how the entire world is slowly evolving:
“She’s not used to the amount of nonsense that the school represents. So the saving of Greendale does continue, and it makes progress. We get to see a semi-successful Greendale emerge in season six and the consequences of that success. There are all of the strange Freud complexes and self-loathing and self-sabotage that abused children will engage in when they’re finally given a warm bowl of soup and unconditional love. But it’s a blend, I think, approaching Greg Daniels’ The Office or Parks and Recreation in that the workplace is Greendale, so the workplace is being used as a plot motivator. For instance, convicted felons are being allowed to attend Greendale on these iPad robots. But the more important thing is what does that bring out in Jeff [McHale]? And more than ever this season, it’s a show about people and their relationships.”
Harmon also confirmed in this interview that he has no plan at all to give the show some sort of definitive ending, and is instead going to allow for other powers-that-be to eventually decide for it to end. Based on what we’ve seen with other cast members (Danny Pudi, Ken Jeong, and even Brewster) getting pilot deals elsewhere, it may be time to shoot for a movie after this.
Excited for tomorrow? Let us know in the comments.
