‘Reign’ season 2 spoilers: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ actress to play Queen Elizabeth
There are some characters on a given TV show that you are just eagerly awaiting to see onscreen. For example, fans of “The Walking Dead” are still eagerly hoping to see Negan, while those who enjoy “Arrow” were waiting for Ra’s al Ghul earlier this season.
For “Reign,” one of the mystery women-in-waiting was none other than Queen Elizabeth. She is obviously hugely important to that period in history, especially when examining the relations between France and England. Therefore, it was very clear that the actress cast for the part was someone who could do it right, and will also be prepared to have a lengthy stay on the show. After all, this character will be a regular on the upcoming third season after making her first appearance in the finale this May.
Who is the lucky lady? It is none other than recent “Fifty Shades of Grey” actress Rachel Skarsten. Per The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Laurie McCarthy had the following to say about this key casting:
“The character of Elizabeth, Queen of England, the only living child of Henry VIII and the murdered Anne Boleyn, looms over Mary Queen of Scots for the duration of her life … Elizabeth has also, without ever stepping onto our stage, loomed over our first two seasons as a forceful and intriguing presence. I have been dying to introduce her to our characters and our audience. Because no single character understands Mary’s (Adelaide Kane) unique circumstances more. No character is more of a threat to her happiness and her life. Elizabeth’s debut in the season finale is a catalyst for events in season three, when Reign will chronicle the lives, loves and tribulations of three queens: Mary, Catherine (Megan Follows) and now Elizabeth.”
“Reign” returns for all-new episodes Thursday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. Hopefully, you will be able to contain your excitement for the new Queen.
