‘Orphan Black’ season 3 premiere will air on AMC, IFC, BBC America, and more

“Orphan Black” is going to clone its season 3 premiere across multiple networks.

In what is one of the first real signs of AMC Networks and BBC Worldwide sharing the ownership of BBC America, the Tatiana Maslany series is actually going to air its April 18 premiere across a variety of different networks. This episode will air not only on its home station, but also AMC, IFC, SundanceTV, and even WE TV, which is not typically the sort of network for this sort of sci-fi fare. The attention here seems obvious: Exposing the series to as many different eyeballs as humanly possible.

Will this really work? It’s hard to say, but among all of the networks the AMC spot is clearly the biggest win. This is the cable network that is in the majority of US households, and many subscribers to it may not actually have BBC America and have never had a chance to get into the show before. This is their opportunity to do that, even if it is for just one week.

As for what diehard member of the Clone Club can take away from this, it feels like an incredible sign of loyalty that the show would get this chance. The executives clearly love the show, and want it to get as large of an audience as possible. This is sometimes difficult when you air on a network with a limited slate of original programs, and until it came along, was mostly just known for being the local home of “Doctor Who.”
