Could an ‘X-Files’ 2015 revival really happen? Fox execs weigh in

Finally, the truth is out there when it comes to the idea of getting more of “The X-Files” on the air.

What is interesting is the way in which buzz began about Fox possibly reviving the long-running series. Gillian Anderson did a Nerdist podcast earlier this week, and in it, she and hosts Chris Hardwick and Matt Mira concocted the #XFiles2015 hashtag as a way to drum up support for the idea of getting the show back in some form. Since that point, it has resonated clearly throughout the internet community, and it even became a talking point at the network’s TCA Winter Press tour today.

While we don’t have anything new or substantial to report, we can at least confirm today that the network has at least discussed it. Programming heads Gary Newman and Dana Walden confirmed that they have had some discussions about bringing the show back, potentially with both Anderson and David Duchovny in the leading roles. However, there is nothing definitive to report right now.

If we were to have it our way, we’d love to see the show return in a situation similar to “24: Live Another Day,” which got a substantial 12-episode run in the summer of 2014. Having 12 episodes, potentially tied around one story with a few little detours here and there, could be a whole lot of fun. Plus, there are still so many out there who love this show. While Anderson in particular may be very busy right now with “Hannibal” and “The Fall,” she still is interested in giving it a go.
