‘Criminal Minds’ season 10 spoilers: ‘CSI: NY’ star to headline new spin-off
Clearly, “Criminal Minds” has no problem taking a few tips here and there from “CSI,” at least in terms of how to properly launch a spin-off series.
Sources confirm today that Gary Sinise, who was the star of the New York-based spin-off series for the show for many years, has been officially brought on board to take on this series. Based on the reports that are currently out there, this show will revolve around a different division of the FBI from the BAU, but one that will help American citizens that are dealing with a significant crisis abroad. Showrunner Erica Messer is set to pen the script for the backdoor pilot, which should air on CBS during the February sweeps.
As for how well this will do, it is hardly the first time that the network has charted out a plan to expand the “Criminal Minds” universe. They previously aired another show entitled “Suspect Behavior,” but the ratings and the reviews for it were far from stellar. Our feeling was that it wasn’t quite different enough from the original, and we did not really need another version of that show.
We’re not entirely sure we need another spin-off here either, but it would be nice to see Hotch, Rossi, and company, have some new people to interact with. Due to this being an ABC Studios series rather than one firmly planted within CBS’ own production houses, we don’t see it colliding with “NCIS” or “Hawaii Five-0” the way that many of those shows tend to.
We are going to have some further scoop on this spin-off when the news hits, so be on the lookout for that. Also, head over here to get some other news related to “Criminal Minds,” or here to get some further TV updates on everything we cover right away via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
