‘Criminal Minds’ season 10, episode 11 review: Jennifer reveals a traumatic secret

Criminal Minds -“Criminal Minds” rarely gives you a deeper look into our main cast of characters lives, but tonight we saw Jennifer falling deeply into a case that hits a little too close to home for her.

When a woman (Sarah) is found frozen to death (seemingly voluntarily) the team realizes that she was taken into a cult and they believe that her son (Bobby) is still part of it. The cult locks their members in a large freezer as a way to break them down and a select few then get to become part of the cult, but the ones that weren’t broken down by the process are left to freeze to death. The boys father gets into the cult to try to get his son back, but things get complicated when the police close in on the cult. Was the father and son able to get out of the cult alive or did one of the killer cult members end their lives? Jennifer and the team were able to get them out alive.

Jennifer is relating to this case as she was abducted and went through something similar 2 years back. Spencer thinks that she is reliving her time with a terrorist and going through post traumatic stress syndrome. After asking Spencer to back off and stop prying she reveals that she was pregnant at the time and that the terrorist killed her baby. She asks Spencer to keep it to himself, but it’s clear to the rest of the team that something is eating away at him. He later pulls a file on the dead terrorist and gives it to Jennifer to help her deal with some of her pain. Unfortunately the file opens up a larger wound and she realizes that even though the terrorist isn’t alive anymore, that he’s still torturing her and makes the decision to close the chapter on him.

We like the stand alone episodes that “Criminal Minds” often gives us, but the special few episodes that relate to our main cast are the ones we are in love with, because it’s so easy to adore the characters and any tie we have a chance to get to know them better is a win. Episode Grade: A-
