‘Girl Meets World’ episode 17 preview: Return date for ‘Girl Meets Game Night,’ first promo!

“Girl Meets World” celebrated Christmas recently, but you’re not going to have to wait long at all before you can see the show back with some episodes again!

Despite the promo below saying “Friday,” January 9 appears to be the show’s return date to the Disney Channel with new episodes. The next new installment is entitled “Girl Meets Game Night,” and the premise here really feels simple enough. It’s a chance to watch Riley, Maya, and the rest of the cast engage in some friendly competition! Also, it’s a chance for Cory to use “family” to his advantage somehow.

We were very nervous about “Girl Meets World” straight out of the gate, mostly because it is following up on one of the best sitcom hits of the past couple of decades. In the early going, it really felt like the show was struggling with its identity, as well, alternating between being funny and overly sentimental. It’s supposed to be more positive and uplifting than your average show, but at times, it went a little bit overboard.

Luckily, since that time we’ve seen the show start to find its footing more, and establish itself as a show for a new generation that should also please some fans of the original. It very much remains a family show, and we’ve found ourselves laughing more at some of the character antics in recent weeks.

There are still some episodes left for the show this season, but don’t worry: The second season is already being filmed, and we’re clearly not going to be seeing this show go anywhere in the near future.
