Ratings: ‘State of Affairs’ plummets; Katherine Heigl series in grave danger

State of Affairs -While Monday night’s “State of Affairs” suffered from some bad circumstances, we have a feeling that NBC is not going to be looking for excuses later this spring when they are deciding what shows to pick up, and what shows to cancel.

For its first airing without a new episode of “The Voice” beforehand, the Katherine Heigl series pulled just a series-low 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic. This is somewhat likely to adjust down even further in the final ratings, since this show was preempted in at least one market for NFL football.

Is there any way to recover from this? It’s possible that ratings could rise a tiny bit in January, as many may have assumed that there was no new episode, given that “The Voice” was off the air last week. However, most other NBC dramas post better ratings than this regardless of the reason or the time in which they air, with the exception being “Constantine.”

If this show does end up getting canceled, it is obviously a big blow to Heigl, who worked very hard in order to ensure that she had a new TV vehicle for herself after spending some years in movies. We feel like at times she may have tried a little too hard, and that this show feels somewhat forced. If she does get another TV role after this, we would prefer it to be something a little more natural, and not just a combination of the other political dramas that are all currently out there.

What do you think: Are the days numbered now for Heigl and company, and is there any way in which you envision this show turning around? Share with a comment, and head over here to check out the state of all things TV courtesy of our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: NBC.)
