‘Downton Abbey’ season 5: Another guest joins George Clooney for ‘Text Santa’ sketch
While George Clooney may not be appearing exactly on “Downton Abbey,” the show’s season 5 set is serving as a setting for a Friday-night “Text Santa” event on ITV. He will be working specifically with Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora, and a few other characters that are to remain a secret.
Well, we are happy to reveal one of these big secrets right now! According to the Radio Times, Joanna Lumley from “Absolutely Fabulous” is going to making an appearance during this little sketch as well. The entire purpose of this event is to raise money for charity, and the combination of these people is obviously designed to try to create as much exposure as possible.
As we have said before, we feel like one of the real reasons for Clooney’s involvement in the event is probably his former “Monuments Men” co-star Hugh Bonneville, who plays Robert on the ITV series.
As for when you are going to get a chance to see McGovern and company on the network again with a new episode set within their own universe, look ahead to Christmas Day! This new season will air in America starting in January; unfortunately, we do not have any inclination that this Clooney sketch will air on PBS. The best thing that you can really hope for is that it comes to YouTube at some point after it airs. It seems like a smart move for ITV to raise more awareness, and to get more people interested in “Downton Abbey” at the same time.
