NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 7: Elyjuh Rene, James David Carter on surprising exits

While you can occasionally predict the results of the American public, trying to formulate the opinion of one person at a spinning red chair is a little more difficult.

This is why we’re still reeling from a pair of results in particular on last night’s “The Voice,” starting with the exit of Elyjuh Rene. We’d chalk up this move by Pharrell as the most shocking since De’borah was sent home seasons ago much to early. He had a killer range and stage presence, and while we weren’t sure he would have won, it did feel like he could have survived a few more weeks in the competition.

After going through this sort of crazy experience and being eliminated early, it’s understandable if you are feeling disappointed. However, Rene didn’t exactly show that in reacting to his exit on Twitter; instead, he only showed off gratitude.

The same goes for James David Carter, who was by our estimation another extremely shocking boot. He was a guy with a huge background in country music, and his mentor Blake Shelton has shown a tendency over the years to favor these acts over any other genre. Maybe that is changing, or maybe he made his decision strategically, seeing that Jessie Pitts performed better on iTunes than the other acts he had to choose from.

There are only twelve contestants left now, but our coverage is ongoing! Sunday, we’ll have posted our full rankings for the remaining singers, and hopefully there will be song spoilers for all of them out Monday. Stay tuned…
