‘Franklin & Bash’ season 5 not happening; TNT cancels Mark-Paul Gosselaar show
TNT might as well start walking around sporting an executioner’s hood, given that they have just thrown the ax down on another one of their programs.
This time around, the series that we are speaking about is one that has a dedicated audience, but the problem is just that it wasn’t big enough: “Franklin & Bash.” The series, which stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Breckin Meyer, saw its viewership dig enormously during its fourth season, and it also lost Kumail Nanjiani over to HBO’s “Silicon Valley.” With the numbers down to a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic on average, there really was no choice to cancel the series.
We’re bummed out about it, since we feel bad for fans of the show and for those who worked on it. Unfortunately, this was just so far below the median numbers that TNT gets for their original programs these days. “The Last Ship” was a big summer hit, and “Murder in the First” did well enough to be renewed. With “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Major Crimes” staying solid hits, both “Dallas” and “Franklin & Bash” were in many ways cancellations of success. In the network was bombing elsewhere, who knows? Maybe the two shows may have stayed around for a while longer.
The one thing that we will say here is that TNT did not exactly give “Franklin & Bash” much of a chance to succeed this season. They premiered it in mid-August, and then consequently aired many episodes against fall programming on other networks. That is a challenge for any cable show, especially one that is somewhat-breezy and can be recorded without any spoilers hitting you on Twitter.

Franklin and Bash was my favorite summer show and I watched this show from the beginning and I loved it. I think it was never the same after Carmen and Pindar left. And adding Heather Locklear last season definitely didn’t help. So Red or Black is the Franklin and Bash series finale cliffhanger. What a poor end to a great show. I’m really heartbroken and disappointed, you would think TNT would have allowed some closure for the loyal fans who have watched the show for the last 4 years. I wish it had a few more episodes to resolve the cliffhanger at the end. This was a fun show and I’m so sad to see it go. I’m done with TNT first they cancel Men of a certain age and now Franklin and Bash. Goodbye TNT, I wont be back.
