‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 5 reaction: Josh McDermitt on Eugene’s surprise, saving Abraham
Let’s start things off when it comes to this “Walking Dead” article with a massive spoiler warning: Don’t read on if you haven’t finished the most-recent episode of the series just yet.
Well, that was a shocking reveal, wasn’t it? We learned that Eugene, despite whatever intelligence he has, is not a scientist at all with any cure in his brain. Instead, he was just a guy trying to keep his butt safe in a very difficult world. He basically saved Abraham from himself at a time when he needed a purpose, but now, he nearly say himself killed at the hands of the redhead.
The good news is that it seems like Eugene is still alive, based at least on Josh McDermitt’s comments in The Hollywood Reporter. The actor suggests that Eugene is still there, and trying to fix things with Abraham has to be a huge priority moving forward:
“Anytime you break trust with anybody there’s a rebuilding period to try and figure out how your relationship will work moving forward. This is where Eugene is going to have to figure out how he fits in with the group — or if he’s still even allowed within the group or go on living. The biggest thing for him, and he said it to Tara, was if he doesn’t have the cure, there’s no reason the group would protect him. He’s a coward and just wants to be protected. So not only does he need to mend that relationship with Abraham but now he’s alone and that’s a place he’s never had to be in. There are some scary things moving forward for this guy that need to be addressed.”
Ultimately, it may take a week or two before we even see Eugene again to figure out what happens next.
