‘True Detective’ season 2: Matthew McConaughey ‘excited’ for Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell
There are a variety of reasons why the first season of “True Detective” ended up working, but one of the biggest ones revolved all around the performances. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson were the anchors of the show, and they each turned in two of the most memorable performances of all the past year of television.
Given the critical acclaim that the series received on HBO, does McConaughey even remotely regret not opting to do a second go-around? It certainly doesn’t seem like it. While doing some press for his new movie “Interstellar,” the actor made it clear that he is happy that he had the experience he did, and that was it. With that being said, he did comment on the recent casting of Vince Vaugh and Colin Farrell to the Mirror:
“I don’t regret saying no to a second season. I spent five or six months working on the show and that was just fine. It had a beginning, a middle and an end for me and I don’t know where it would have gone from there.
“I am someone who likes to do different things and I would have never done it if I would have had to sign on for a guaranteed three seasons. I simply wouldn’t have done it. But I’m excited about the new cast of Colin and Vince.”
We much prefer that “True Detective” has taken the approach to feature a new cast in the second season, and this is something that we wish “American Horror Story” would have considered at some point. After all, it can be a little tricky sometimes to see the same group of people, in different characters, and expect to not be confused given that it is the same show.
Filming is slated to begin soon for the second season of the show in California. While there is no official premiere date, we would expect to see it on the air come this summer / fall.
