‘Dancing with the Stars’ 19: Derek Hough chimes in on Mark Ballas, Len Goodman
It’s funny sometimes to see what constitutes a controversy on “Dancing with the Stars,” mostly because the majority of the time, we are ultimately witnessing people going back and forth and bickering about little things.
The latest headline? That lead judge Len Goodman doesn’t appreciate dances that are outside the box. We think we does, but so long as it stays within the form of what the dance is. If they didn’t want a ballroom specialist on the show giving out scores, then you can just go back and hire Pitbull or Jessie J full-time. We understand how Mark Ballas could take offense to this, mostly because we’re just that after so many years on the show, you want to do some things that are different and appeal to the voters at home.
We feel like the best explanation when it comes to this “controversy” comes via Derek Hough’s blog on TV Guide, where he goes on to discuss a little bit about what he and the other pros have to expect out of the often-grumpy judge on the show:
“I know there’s a lot of talk about Mark’s comments about Len this week. I honestly think that Len has a role on the show. I don’t think he doesn’t appreciate creativity, but he’s the old guy, the curmudgeon. We just need to know that and need to be prepared for that. I know that if I do something out-there, I have to be ready to be blasted by Len. A lot of times, I’m more surprised that he likes it! I think in recent seasons, he’s liked more abstract dances because the show itself has developed and evolved.”
Maybe we’ll see Len’s attitude change on the next new episode of the show … but we really doubt it. You have to keep track of just who it is we are talking about here.
