‘Doctor Who’ season 8 finale spoilers: Peter Capaldi, Michelle Gomez on Master twist
While the folks over at “Doctor Who” are being extremely secretive right now when it comes to the story of the upcoming finale, there is one thing that they have no problem sharing: More details about how Missy, the character played by Michelle Gomez on the BBC series, ended up becoming one of the Doctor’s most-feared villains in the Master.
In the video below, executive producer Steven Moffat details how Gomez was originally in consideration for another part on the series, but he changed course immediately when he started to think about the idea of her in this particular role. Meanwhile, Gomez commented that you seriously cannot turn down “Doctor Who,” regardless of what the role they have you playing is. The fact that it is someone so substantial, and they also happen to be the first female Master on the show, is merely icing on the cake.
Finally, Peter Capaldi closes things off by talking about his knowledge of Gomez as an actor, and also how excited he was personally to see the Master return in a new form. Capaldi is a long-time fan of the series, regardless of whether or not he is on it now. So to be a part of a finale that contains both this adversary along with Cybermen has to be considered quite a substantial thrill.
We’ll be back tomorrow with hopefully an extensive review of this finale, where we will ultimately see just what this story ends up bringing to the table.
