‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’ episode 4 review: The life and times of Twisty the Clown

Twisty -Tonight’s “American Horror Story: Freak Show” episode was definitely freaky, to say the least. It also may go down as one of the saddest in a way that we did not see coming.

When the news first came out that we were going to be getting some more news about Twisty the Clown tonight, we personally thought that it meant backstory so we’d be seeing him stick around for a while. Instead, what we saw was him be the one taken by Edward Mordrake, leaving Dandy Mott without his best friend. Twisty’s entire story was one born out of complete misunderstanding at first, when he just wanted to entertain. This was destroyed courtesy by freak-show performers, and the nature of his mind, coupled with his own personal thirst for revenge, made him into a complete psychopath out to “protect” children by locking them in a cage.

Mordrake, as it turns out, also has an unusual moral compass. He chose the one person to take who did not understand their own insanity at all, and refused to acknowledge their inner evil. Elsa Mars at one point even begged for salvation, but she was spared.

As a result of the death of Twisty, the curfew has been officially lifted, and peace can return to Jupiter … sort of. The problem here is that Dandy is still out there, and do you think that he is going to be very happy with the loss of his mentor?

What was remarkable is that due to rescuing the children, Elsa’s freak show is in a better position now than ever before. They have the love and respect of the town (save for maybe Dandy), and it seems like business is back in action.

The crazy thing is that as bummed as we are about the death of Twisty, we really enjoyed this episode despite it not really showing much of Ethel, Bette and Dot, or Dell over the course of the hour.

Also, Dandy killed the maid. Didn’t we all see that one coming? Grade: A-.
