CBS gives ‘Madam Secretary,’ ‘Stalker,’ ‘Scorpion,’ ‘NCIS: New Orleans’ full seasons
When it rains, it apparently pours over at CBS when it comes to how they announce full seasons of their shows.
Basically, the network confirmed today that all four of their prominent new drama series (“Stalker,” “Scorpion,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” and “Madam Secretary”) have been handed full seasons. It’s somewhat surprising that they’ve all been given these orders together, but this tells us a few things:
- CBS is willing to give some of them (particular “Stalker”) a chance to grow an audience over the course of the year.
- Also, CBS may not be that confident with any other potential options at midseason, and this helps to shore up some shows that they at least feel have a decent change.
Out of these four, we’re actually not 100% confident about any of their chances of a season 2. “NCIS: New Orleans” seems to be the closest to a sure thing, thanks to its huge viewership and having the luxury of that “NCIS” lead-in. We’ll see how “Scorpion” fares tonight without “The Big Bang Theory,” but it is currently in second position.
While we could easily see “Stalker” going, “Madam Secretary” could be the trickiest of the shows to decide on. It gets huge viewership, but its 18-49 ratings are low and this sets a tough tone for Sunday nights. Our feeling for now is that “The Amazing Race” was at least marginally better in this timeslot in this key measure.
In a statement confirming this news, CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler had the following to say:
“These four shows have had an immediate impact on our schedule by improving nights, winning time periods and adding more hours of success across our primetime line up.”
