‘Hart of Dixie’ season 4 spoilers: Wilson Bethel, Scott Porter on cancellation talk
It was Wilson Bethel and Scott Porter who really first set the internet ablaze with talk that “Hart of Dixie” season 4 could be the last for the show, so it only seems somewhat appropriate now that they be the two that further explain themselves now.
Basically, what we have from the two (per a new Yahoo TV story) is an explanation that even the show has not been officially canceled, they see the writing on the wall and are in part going into the new season airing with that expectation. Ultimately, they don’t want the rug to be pulled out from under them if the show is canceled, and they did not get to celebrate any “lasts” when they were on set.
Let’s start with a quote from Porter, who of course plays George Tucker:
“We aren’t canceled. We haven’t gotten a phone call from anybody at the network. But, if this was the end, then I think we all wanted to just pay it its proper due … It was a beautiful moment in time and we all wanted to make sure that people knew just how much this all meant to us.”
Meanwhile, here is what Bethel (who plays Wade) had to say on the subject:
“There seemed to be indications that maybe potentially this could be the last season… Storywise, it started to kind of feel in that way … In terms of some of the hullaballoo around certain tweets that were sent, it was basically preparing for that possibility.”
The real reason for the ten-episode order is because of Rachel Bilson’s pregnancy, though we do still wonder if the show would have received fewer than 22 episodes this season regardless, given that there really is not a place for the show on the schedule this farll.
We’re not completely ruling out a season 5 for the series just yet, but based on what we know and the information that we have seen, it’s going to be a challenge. Basically, they need to improve their ratings performance, and convince executives that there are still stories to tell.
We’re going to continue to have some updates on this story moving forward, so be on the lookout for that at this link! Also, sign up now to get some more updates on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter.

I love HOD and am looking forward to a great S4. The reason S3 ratings were down was due to the writers going off course with the emphisis on the Joel saga instead of our favorites. A lot of fans were turned off…and even though the show improved after Joel left, the season was wasted. S4 better be all about Zoe and Wade’s love story…the writers owe us that much.
