Fox orders more ‘Red Band Society’ scripts; is hope still alive?
The wait for the first TV series of the fall to be officially canceled keeps on going, and today, it appears that fans of Fox’s “Red Band Society” may be able to breathe at least a little bit easier than they were beforehand.
The network has officially now ordered four more scripts for the Octavia Spencer series, which if nothing else means that the show is going to have a chance beyond its first 13. The writers will be paid to show Fox some new ideas, and they will determine from there if these scripts and the ratings are good enough to make more.
The numbers for “Red Band Society” have not been great by any means, but there is one singular reason that most fans of the show should continue to have a little bit of hope here: It’s on Fox, and the ratings across the board have not been anywhere close to outstanding. Outside of “Gotham,” no show scores more than a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, and “Sleepy Hollow” and “Bones” are their only other solid hits. Meanwhile, “Gracepoint” is a commercial dead, “Utopia” is close to ending a good ten months early, “Hell’s Kitchen” is crashing finally, and the comedy lineup simply is not pulling any numbers anymore. The ratings are collectively starting to get so terrible that “The X Factor” is starting to look somewhat good by comparison.
We’re at least happy for the fans of this particular show, given that there were some who watch here with regularity and with excitement for the characters.
