‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 spoilers: The changes for Melissa McBride’s Carol
At this point during the run of “The Walking Dead,” it’s really pretty darn hard to not be a Carol fan. She is up there with Daryl Dixon right now as one of the show’s greatest action heroes, and there is very little sign that this is going to change at any point in the near future now that she’s helped to save the group at Terminus.
With all this being said, should we be comparing Carol to anyone in the comics right now? There are some who are proclaiming her to be almost the new version of Andrea, who lasted longer in the comics and is even still there? Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, comic author Robert Kirkman sees things a little differently:
“Carol is her own unique character; it would be a disservice to Melissa McBride to say she’s evolved into the Carol from comics … The Carol in the TV show is a wholly original creation that we’ll continue to explore on the show to great effect. Everyone in writers’ room loves that character, and we’re thrilled with what Melissa has brought to the table. She has definitely become a character that is one to watch, and there’s some really exciting stuff ahead for her.”
Meanwhile, showrunner Scott Gimple made it clear that Carol goes about her awesomeness in a very different way, and does not posses the same sort of “cocky” behavior patterns that we saw from the comic Andrea.
Personally, we do not really care how Carol is compared to, at least so long as she is a great character and Melissa McBride continues to bring great stuff to the table.
