‘Downton Abbey’ episode 5, episode 5 preview: Elizabeth McGovern’s Cora sees Simon (again)
Does the Earl have anything substantial to worry about when it comes to Simon Bricker on “Downton Abbey“? We are probably going to find out next week when the series returns to its normal timeslot. (No more being delayed 15 minutes!) Richard E. Grant will return once again, and it becomes more and more clear that his relationship with Cora is entering a fairly dangerous level. (Warning: Spoilers below for Americans!)
The Simon story is perhaps the most intriguing for us, largely because Cora has not been in this position for some time. She has been treated badly at times by her husband, and here is a man who sees her as an intellectual equal. Someone should ultimately tell Robert that he needs to step up his game.
There is much more next week beyond Cora, and the synopsis below gives you further details on the return of Sarah Bunting, a possible new love interest for Rose, and trouble that may come Anna’s way:
“Simon Bricker returns to Downton to discuss the painting with Cora, but this time has his flirting gone too far? Branson makes a difficult decision about Sarah Bunting and Rose encounters a handsome stranger. Determined to stop Isobel making the wrong decision about Lord Merton, Violet enlists the help of Doctor Clarkson. Meanwhile in London, Charles Blake surprises Mary with a cunning plan to help her get exactly what she wants. Downstairs, Mrs Patmore seeks Carson’s advice on a financial matter and Inspector Vyner returns with some ominous words of warning for Anna.”
Before we go on and on when it comes to our overall level of excitement, let us just compliment Julian Fellowes and company on a great story so far. This has been one of the most surprising seasons, and it feels like there is more in four episodes this year than in the eight we saw last year plus the Christmas Special.
