‘Doctor Who’ season 8, episode 6 preview: Danny Pink, the Doctor, and ‘The Caretaker’
We have to say that after the stellar work that Steven Moffat and company put into “Listen,” Saturday’s new episode of “Doctor Who” entitled “Time Heist” was simply “very good” rather than phenomenal. There were some funny moments and a much larger cast of characters, but we cannot imagine The Doctor as James Bond being something we remember years from now.
So where we go from here next week is “The Caretaker,” an installment that is going to send Peter Capaldi’s character on a very different sort of mission … one that is undercover at a school. There could be great comedy in here, in particular as our hero starts to get a little bit closer to Clara’s occasional love interest this season.
The BBC has already released a synopsis for this episode, and you can check that out right now below:
“When terrifying events threaten Coal Hill school the Doctor decides to go undercover. The Skovox Blitzer is ready to destroy all humanity – and worse, any second now, Danny Pink and the Doctor are going to meet.”
This episode almost feels like a standard one from the Moffat era, which makes a little sense given that he co-wrote it with Gareth Roberts. You have a significant threat, some humor, and the return of some important characters to boot. We have a hard time imagining that almost anything in “Time Heist” will carry over too much to this one. This season tends to have a standalone quality to many of its stories.
