‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: ‘Kill the Moon,’ and struggles in space
One of the reasons we feel like “Listen” was a classic episode of “Doctor Who” was because it combined a little bit of what we love about the show (imagination) with an interesting way of telling a universal story about fear. The show is sometimes better when the stakes are actually raised, and you have a reason to a certain extent to be terrified.
Well, this is something that may end up becoming a very huge part of the equation in “Kill the Moon,” a story that sounds terrifying to us already … but that may be because of our own personal fear of spiders. The creatures just freak us the heck out, and that already has us starting to quiver as we sit here writing this article.
If you want to know how these spiders manifest themselves, and some other cool details about this episode, take a look at the official synopsis below:
“In the near future, the Doctor and Clara find themselves on a space shuttle making a suicide mission to the Moon.
“Crash-landing on the lunar surface, they find a mining base full of corpses, vicious spider-like creatures poised to attack, and a terrible dilemma.
“When Clara turns to the Doctor for help, she gets the shock of her life.”
If there is one thing that could cause Clara even more fear and emotional trauma, we would say that it would be the Doctor turning his back on her. Could this be the “shock of her life”? We do wonder, given that this is hardly the warm, fuzzy version of the character that we had back when Matt Smith was around. Capaldi’s version is rough around the edges and somewhat dangerous. That makes him interesting to us, but probably not the sort of person you would actually want to trust.
