‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 11 spoilers: Is an hour-long showcase for Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey coming?
We understand that it’s easy to love the Meredith and Derek characters on “Grey’s Anatomy,” and therefore you want to see as much of them as humanly possible.
We already know that Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are going to have quite possibly even more of a major role in the story this year than usual, but that does not necessarily mean that they will dominate a single episode coming up. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, creator Shonda Rhimes suggested that while they are the focus, there may not be an episode specifically geared around these two characters and these two characters only in the near future:
“I feel like now that it’s the year of Meredith, I don’t know that a Meredith-centric episode, or a Meredith-Derek-centric episode is necessary … That doesn’t mean that we’re not having an all Meredith or an all Meredith-Derek episode, we’re just not there yet.”
Our personal view is this: If the entire season is anchored somewhat by their story, then there’s really no need to make almost every single part of the show about their story, as well. Just give us a little bit throughout, and keep it fresh. We’re excited about a story of a couple going through some real problems, but trying to do it without the imminent threat of divorce. That is not to say that the two are stuck together forever, but we cannot see them splitting in the near future.
“Grey’s Anatomy” returns to ABC on Thursday, September 25, and will be doing so in a brand-new timeslot starting at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Can’t wait for their storyline!! Seems so good and so real. I hope they make them deal with it in a mature way that doesn’t involve cheating or separate. Like how they done with other couples. Bring on the Mer/Der :)

Like you said, I’m excited to see a married couple go through problems that don’t involve cheating or anyone necessarily being in the wrong. I really hope that the threat of divorce isn’t even on the table because that would be incredibly annoying.
