2014 MTV VMAs: Miley Cyrus, Lorde, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry among winners

VMAs -

The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards are for the most part all about the spectacle, and thanks to that, it is pretty easy to remember the fact that there are some actual winners thrown in here, as well. This is what this article is about. We are not a music site first and foremost, so this is not necessarily the place to be for deep analysis of each and every person to take home a Moonman Trophy. With that being said, at least some of those people should be familiar to TV audiences even without spending a whole lot of time listening to the radio.

  • Lyric Video – 5 Seconds of Summer, “Don’t Stop”
  • Video of the Year – Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”
  • Female Video – Katy Perry, “Dark Horse” featuring Juicy J
  • Male Video – Ed Sheeran, “Sing”
  • Pop Video – Ariana Grande, “Problem featuring Iggy Azalea
  • Hip Hop Video – Drake, “Hold On, We’re Going Home”
  • Artist to Watch – Fifth Harmony, “Miss Movin’ On”
  • Rock Song – Lorde, “Royals” (wait, this is rock?)

We cannot say that any of these winners are particularly shocking, especially the part about many of them still being either teenagers, or just around drinking age. This just shows you how the music world works, and the major bummer to us is that older, more accomplished artists are not getting the same sort of recognition that they really deserve most of the time. Oh well … maybe next year?

What do you think about the winners for the VMAs this year?
