‘Happy Valley’ season 2 official; Sarah Lancashire drama renewed on BBC One
It’s now official: You are going to see much more of “Happy Valley” on BBC One in the future. Off of the heels of an incredibly successful first season, which featured more than 7 million viewers watching the finale including a 92.5 rating (which is downright incredible), the network has finally confirmed that there will be another run of episodes featuring Sarah Lancashire as Catherine Cawood, a police officer who is trying to solve a kidnapping case in a small town while simultaneously dealing with her own grief. This is basically the most-deceptive episode title ever, given that this is far from a happy show the majority of the time.
In a statement, executive producer Nicola Shindler had the following to say about getting the show back on the air:
“Sally [Wainwright] created a truly magnificent series with very real, complex characters, an engaging plot and breathtaking storyline … I am delighted that we will be able to delve deeper into Catherine’s world in series two.”
This news comes at a very promising time for “Happy Valley,” given that Netflix plans on bringing the show to America for the first time in the near future. The only real mystery to us is why in the world the network waited so long to confirm another season. Even if they knew they were going to bring it back for more, why not just go ahead and make the announcement sooner? What negative impact would that have?
Regardless, you at least have something more to look forward to in the future. Stay tuned.

I love this program and eagerly look forward to season two despite the frustration I feel at the fact that the police force is so ill prepared for the level of criminality they encounter, marching willy-milly into very dangerous situations resulting in the death of one officer and the severe beating of officer Cawood.
