‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6: Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, cast shoot promo photos

It’s an age-old tradition at this point for TV shows to start to shoot their promotional photos around the start of August, and for the cast of “The Vampire Diaries,” we are pleased to report that these are officially now in the can.

It doesn’t take a whole lot of effort to learn via social media that the shoot took place on Sunday, with Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev, Paul Wesley, and so many more getting involved. We know that Ian in particular spent some time taking photos alongside his co-star Kat Graham, which makes sense given that Bonnie and Damon are both off lost somewhere when the new season picks back up.

When it comes to drama, the cast is going to have a hard time topping the moody photos from season 5… which included Elena deciding to wear something more revealing than she has ever walked around in on the show. (We still don’t get that one, just like we’re also wondering about shirtless Matt being the centerpiece for the whole image.) Still, this is a show that does benefit heavily from a sultry / newsworthy photo shoot, given that so much of the series revolves around blood, romance, and getting people talking. It’s a little different than a crime procedural, where every week you are going to see a slightly different variation on what you’ve seen before.

As for when these photos will be officially released, think along the lines of early September. After all, there is no benefit of getting them out earlier than they really need to, especially since you want that extra bump promote the show.
