‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 spoilers: Now with a touch of … Hogwarts?
“Downton Abbey” is a show that does love the element of surprise … so what better surprise is there other than combining two of the most-beloved properties of all time?
In what has to be a twist that many within the fantasy world love, the ITV show has been reportedly filming at Alnwick Castle, a place that served as the backdrop for Hogwarts during the “Harry Potter” film series. It also served as the backdrop for many famous Quidditch matches played by Daniel Radcliffe and company. Filming scenes at the location is reportedly going to be taking place for at least the rest of the week, and given the timing right now, we would imagine that this could be for the Christmas Special (or the season finale, if you watch the show in America). Traditionally, this special focuses on the characters migrating away from the Abbey for a time to take a look at some other things within the world.
The simple question that we have upon hearing this news is mostly why in the world the show would want to go about filming in such a place, given that it is already iconic to another property. Our guess is that either they feel like they can present it in a matter that feels fresh, or that there are only so many castles that are available across Britain, and they are not really given the luxury of a whole lot of choice here. Sometimes, you just have to take what you can get.
