‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: The path to ‘The Avengers’ sequel

“Agents of SHIELD” has been occasionally given some opportunities to succeed on ABC, but it also has a continuous struggle that it has to figure out: Trying to ensure that the show remains exciting, but also that there is not so much that happens that “The Avengers: The Age of Ultron” would not be able to cover over the course of its own season. That’s a tricky struggle.

So basically, the show has to find that happy medium of exciting without doing anything as insane as what happened during “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” There is still a journey that the show will take, though, and executive producer Jed Whedon was able to at least tell TVLine the following:

“Everything is connected, sometimes more so than other times. Obviously Coulson was born out of the films, and we can only hope to have that sort of impact in the other direction.

“But right now, we’re just trying to make everybody as cool and interesting as we can.”

Somehow, we figure that the show will manage to figure this out without too many problems … even if it takes some time. The best thing that the show can do is send the characters on some crazy arcs that change their lives, and change the circumstances of the characters just enough that there is an interesting update thrown in there for fans of only the movies when the next film comes out. We’ll find out a little more about this when the series does return with new episodes on Tuesday, September 23.
