‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 spoilers: Is some filming now underway?
The next couple of days are going to be big when it comes to “Game of Thrones.” The show will have its annual panel down at Comic-Con, which is a chance to get some minor scoop on season 5 while at the same time some reflection on season 4 and some funny stories from the cast.
Also, we’re getting at least some good signs that production is finally starting to get going now for the upcoming season … at least in Northern Ireland, where the majority of the sets are located for the show. Winter Is Coming has collected some evidence via Twitter sources and more, and the timing definitely seems right. The show tends to begin filming in July, and then carries through to at least November in some various parts of the world.
There are many reasons why it is a little more difficult to pin down specific filming dates for this show than some others on the air. For one, “Game of Thrones” is filmed in such remote locations sometimes that it’s hard for English-speaking fans to know what is going on. While Belfast is not remote, they’ve usually got that set pretty well-protected from spoiler-hunters. The entire cast is also on lockdown by HBO.
We’re sure that there will be further details that come out of Spain, Iceland, and some other locations that are used this year, but we’ll save most of our announcements for official ones from HBO or news that doesn’t ruin anything that they are planning. While we know the show is based on the George R.R. Martin books and is sort of spoiled thanks to that, we also like to think that the showrunners should get to present their story without interference.
