‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 6 spoilers: Matt in a not-so-supernatural world

Take a look -We’ve always understood that Matt Donovan on “The Vampire Diaries” wants to stay near his friends in Mystic Falls, and that is the primary reason why he hasn’t done really anything in his power to hightail it out of there as quickly as he possibly can. If we were in his shoes, though, we would be long good. Why put yourself in so many near-death situations when you can easily go off somewhere else, and live a normal life?

Well, Matt may have just figured out how to do that when season 6 picks up. Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Julie Plec suggests that this character may actually be a part of a normal society again for the first time in forever:

“He misses his friends, but he’s dealing with his grief in his own way [and] he’s channeling it into something very positive by getting involved in the community and really trying to make something of himself … So he’s thriving, ironically, in the absence of the supernatural elements in Mystic Falls.”

So how long do we think this is going to last? If we were one to make a guess right now, we’d say that it is going to take a long time before Matt starts to even come close to having a permanent normal life. He’ll get sucked back into what Elena and company are up to somehow, and eventually, some of his grief will be taken away from him when he learns that Damon and Bonnie are actually still alive. It’s not unreasonable for him to think otherwise, though, based on the tiny amount of information that he and the other characters have at this very moment.
