‘Bones’ season 10: Fox not necessarily hoping for final season
Back when the “Bones” season 10 renewal was announced fairly early, there were plenty of suspicions that this would be the final go for the show. Ten is a nice, round number to end on, and there’s also the familiar concern of how many more stories are there left to tell when you’ve been on the air for this long.
Now, that tune may be changing at least a little bit. Speaking at the TCA Summer Press Tour this weekend, Peter Rice of Fox Networks expressed a desire to have the show back for future seasons, even if there are some hurdles in here:
“I hope this year is not the last year. It’s a fantastic series. It has famously moved all over our schedule. It’s Emily [Deschanel] and David [Boreanaz’s] last year, contractually… but I hope it will come back.”
The two clear things to watch will be first the ratings, and then the status of a new deal for the actors. The former will certainly impact the latter, and what sort of salary bump the studio can afford to give them. We know we’re in the minority on this, but we almost wish the show stayed on Friday nights. Its ratings there were pretty comparable to Mondays, and there was a heck of a lot less competition for it. In the long run, you just have to look at shows like “Shark Tank” as proof that this night can work very well.
Right now, we’re about 50-50 on whether or not this coming season of “Bones” will be the last. We’ll have a better idea come around the time of the baseball hiatus what the quality of the show is like now and what the ratings are.
