ABC’s ‘Castle’ season 7 spoilers: New Boss on Nathan Fillion’s Rick, Stana Katic’s Kate, the future

Should you be worried at all that the “Castle” cliffhanger means the potential end for Castle and Beckett? Hardly, based on what the show’s new boss is saying now. That twist with Rick’s kidnapping may be infuriating to some, but we are getting some insistence now that there is a specific reason for it that will be made clear later.

For now, just rest assured that David Amann is not interested in beating around the bush with Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic’s characters, or making you wait forever for the two to actually have some progression forward. Speaking to TVLine, he had the following to say on the subject:

“We are as committed to their relationship as Castle and Beckett are — they are deeply in love and they have overcome a great many challenges already … So whatever [has happened] is not going to tear them apart. If anything, it will make them stronger.”

Meanwhile, creator Andrew W. Marlowe (who is still very much involved with the show) explained further the plans following the finale twist, and also responded to some of the backlash that came with just not letting these two characters finally be married:

“[When] the fans see what we are doing, they’re going to be happy that it’s not a dream. We did what we did for a reason — to open up some new mythology, to have some really fun storytelling coming up. Those fans who are less-than-thrilled should reserve judgement until they see the first few shows of the season.”

Of course, reserving judgment is something that is a little bit easier said than done, especially when you have such strong opinions and feelings about the cast and the characters. We’ve already said that we felt the finale twist was a little unnecessary, but we’ve also still got room in our heart to be turned around if the show blows us away in the premiere.
