TV Quick Hits: ‘Heroes: Reborn,’ ‘The Goldbergs’ news; ‘The Strain’ premiere ratings

“Heroes: Reborn” to focus on new faces – Even though we know now that “Heroes: Reborn” has Jack Coleman on board yet again as Noah Bennett / HRG, the show still isn’t quite interested in looking at the first four seasons of the show.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, show boss Tim Kring says that he brought Coleman back specifically because his character is a good transition point, and that the new series would be set after season 4 of “Heroes.” He also explained that it was actually NBC who suggested the he bring the show back before he even said anything:

“To be honest, it wasn’t a pitch from me, it was a pitch from NBC to me. They saw the value in that franchise and brand and asked if I was interested in helming it again. And we had left the story in a place where we had more story to tell. So given the opportunity, I had ideas of where I wanted the story to go originally when we were hoping for a fifth season and so when we were given the opportunity five years late, some of those same thoughts were there as to where this story goes. But five years had passed and I also had new ideas on how to reboot the brand in away that gives people a whole fresh take on the series with a whole host of new characters but gives you that sense of you’re in that world of Heroes you’re familiar with.”

“Heroes: Reborn” should premiere at some point in 2015. As for some other news…

“The Strain” has solid start – Sunday nights were new ground for FX, but the “vampire” story managed to fare very well for them. With 3 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, it was the #2 scripted program on cable for the night behind only “True Blood.” Given this and mostly-favorable reviews, the future is bright.

High hopes for “The Goldbergs” – If you loved the first season, the show’s move to Wednesday nights this fall is inspired by a hope that the show will find more viewers surrounded by other great comedies. Here’s to hoping.
