FX’s ‘Tyrant,’ USA’s upcoming ‘Dig’ in limbo due to unrest in Israel

Given the natural beauty and old-world feel that can come from filming your show in Israel, we certainly understand the appeal for many showrunners who decide that they want to set their programs there.

Unfortunately, with every advantage of being in the country comes a set of disadvantages, and there are some pretty substantial ones when it comes to the a pair of shows right now.  According to TV Guide, FX’s “Tyrant” and the upcoming USA series “Dig” have temporarily suspended production in the wake of new violence and unrest in the region. “Tyrant” is moving for the time being from Tel Aviv over to Turkey, while “Dig” has a reported contingency plan in the event that they cannot return to the country in the near future.

This is far from the first time that we have heard about these sort of problems impacting production. At one point during season 3 “Homeland” wanted to go to the Middle East for production, but they eventually opted to substitute Morocco instead. They are now filming in South Africa, which they are using as a substitute for Afghanistan and Pakistan due to all of the military action in those countries.

In the end, what all of this really tells us is mostly just that filming shows internationally does pose enormous risks, but as long as you are prepared for anything that could come down the line as a result, you can be okay. Let’s just hope that conflicts can subside for the people living in these places first and foremost, and then so that the employees on these shows can get back to work there.
