‘True Detective’ season 2: One possible director in the mix

While we know that the majority of the headlines out there right now related to “True Detective” have to do with the acting side of the things, there is just as interesting a debate right now when it comes to directors.

Last year, the show had the luxury of being directed by one man only in Cara Fukunaga,  but the reality here is that this is not happening again. The amount of work that goes into directing a TV show is so exhausting that it’s amazing Fukunaga managed to do it once in the first place.

One name that may be in contention to help at least a few episodes of the second season? Iconic director William Friedkin (“The Exorcist” and so much more). Speaking to Indiewire, he explained some of how he is contemplating an offer to do something with the show:

“I am considering it … I like this writer [Nic Pizzolatto] very much. I’ve met him, and he’s the real deal as far as I’m concerned. Now, all the new seasons are different so I’m not committed—this new season has nothing to do with the last one. Except for him and his sensibility, which I think is extraordinary.

“I’m… I can’t say much more at this time. But I’m a fan of his writing, even though this will not be a continuation of what was done before with [Matthew] McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. So what you can say is I’m a huge fan of his writing, I’ve met with him, I like him, I like the direction he’s taking with this.”

This project is one that Pizzolatto is appropriately taking his time with, and for good reason. The last thing that you want to do is rush something like this to air, and then it disappoints and angers everyone.
