2014 Critics Choice TV Awards: Bellamy Young, Uzo Aduba, Aaron Paul among winners
The 2014 Critics Choice TV Awards are upon us, and that means a chance for many a great talent to be recognized. We’re going to be with you all night long with more than just a winners list. We’ll have our own personal analysis of every one given how much of our time this past year we spent watching shows.
Be sure to refresh this page throughout the night for more winners, big moments, and much more. You can also watch along with us on The CW.
Supporting Actress in a Drama – Bellamy Young, “Scandal.” We’re very happy for Bellamy here. Mellie had a huge year on the show, and this debunks that notion that the series belongs to Kerry Washington and Kerry Washington only.
Supporting Actor in a Drama – Aaron Paul, “Breaking Bad.” It’s nice to see Aaron get more love, but we still have to admit we would’ve nominated and possibly picked Dean Norris for his role in the final eight episodes.
Guest Performer in a Comedy Series – Uzo Aduba, “Orange Is the New Black.” You could tell from the moment that the nominees were read from the crowd that Aduba had this in the bag.
Guest Performer in a Drama Series – Allison Janney, “Masters of Sex.” This was a little more contentious, since we thought that she and her co-star Beau Bridges may have canceled each other out and allowed someone like Walton Goggins to sneak in with a win.
Supporting Actor in a Movie / Miniseries – Matt Bomer, “The Normal Heart.” This was a two-person race between him and Colin Hanks, so it is no surprise at all to see him walk away with this when you remember what he actually put himself through for this role.
Supporting Actress in a Movie / Miniseries – Allison Tolman, “Fargo.” A great win from one of the breakout stars of this year. Tolman was great and perfectly human throughout this ten-episode gem.
Supporting Actor in a Comedy – Andre Braugher, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” Love that Andre won this award given how brilliant he is. Slightly bummed that he was not able to attend the ceremony.
Supporting Actress in a Comedy – Kate Mulgrew, “Orange Is the New Black” and Allison Janney, “Mom.” Clearly, Janney is having herself an amazing night. So is the Netflix series.
Louie XIII Award – Ryan Murphy, who hilariously went on stage and read Twitter messages from people who hated him getting the award.
Reality Series – “Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey.” One of the real reasons we are happy about this is because it means that some of the other awful nominees didn’t win.
Reality Competition – “Shark Tank.” This is a little bit of a surprise winner, but one we are nonetheless happy with. It’s hard not to love the tank!
Animated Series – “Archer.” Given the writing and the audience for this show, it’s hard to be shocked by this one.
Actor in a Movie / Miniseries – Billy Bob Thornton, “Fargo.” We were wondering whether or not he and Martin Freeman would end up damaging each other. That didn’t happen.
Actress in a Movie / Musical – Jessica Lange, “American Horror Story.” We don’t quite feel like this performance was the right one for the trophy, even though Lange is pretty fantastic in most everything.
Talk Show – “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” Not bad for a guy just starting out on late-night TV.
Host – Neil DeGrasse Tyson, “Cosmos.” What a great year this has been for “Cosmos,” and for Tyson in general. This show served as a platform for science, and there are few things more rewarding than that.
Miniseries – “Fargo.” No surprise at all here. This show was good enough to win almost any award in any category.
Movie – “The Normal Heart.” Another non-shocker. This and the miniseries trophy are almost sure to be replicated at the Emmys later this year.
Actor, Comedy Series – Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory.” Cheers for Parsons winning another trophy, but did he really need to be honored more for this role?
Actress, Comedy Series – Julia Louis-Dreyfus, “Veep.” We could say the same thing for Julia pretty much in general, but we also feel like her show had a stronger year.
Comedy Series – “Orange Is the New Black.” The way the other categories were going, this victory was almost assured.
Actor, Drama Series – Matthew McConaughey, “True Detective.” All right, all right, all right. Toppling Bryan Cranston shows just how much people loved McConaughey as Rust Cohle in the HBO series.
Actress, Drama Series – Tatiana Maslany, “Orphan Black.” Hopefully, this will help the Emmys to actually nominate her next season.
Best Drama Series – “Breaking Bad.” Sometimes, it is still good to be “Bad,” and the show managed a great send-off even despite all of the competition.

Yes, Jim Parsons deserved to win. He is a great actor. It seems like you don’t like Sheldon Cooper. Also, you praise the Critic Choice Awards for getting the noms right, then you are annoyed at the some of the winners. Jim Parsons seems like a humble guy. Therefore, I would like to see many awards go to a great actor who is humble, rather than some actor who seems like a complete tool. Go Jim Parsons! You rule.

Stop trying to pit two women against each other, no one ever said Scandal belongs to Kerry only, but what has been said is that the role of Olivia Pope belongs to Kerry Washington. A role which has helped make Scandal very popular. I don’t hear you making the same argument with other shows. You didn’t write that last year when Dan won an Emmy for guest actor on Scandal. You didn’t make that comparison with the other male actors.
You don’t have to try and put down the lead actress. I’ll quote Kerry Washington, “there’s a big enough pie for everyone to get a slice.”
