‘Game of Thrones’ season 4, episode 9: Kit Harrington, Rose Leslie react to big scene

Tonight on “Game of Thrones,” we had a heck of an action-packed hour in “The Watchers on the Wall” that pushed the Jon Snow story a few steps forward, but also caused us to lose at least one very important character in the the mythology: Ygritte. The Wilding warrior, who was a love interest for Jon briefly during season 3, died in his arms during the massive Battle at the Wall.

But as emotional as it was in order to see the character go, it had to be so much worse for the actors who were all filming the scenes. Speaking to TVLine, Rose Leslie explained what it was like for her filming some of the difficult scenes that saw her character say goodbye to a show that she has been a part of since the second season:

“Production had been incredibly thoughtful. They had left that scene, where I die in Jon Snow’s arms, until my last day  Oh gosh, I was a little baby, Kim. I really was. I blubbed like a little girl when we were finally done, because I was so incredibly touched.”

As for whether or not Kit Harrington spent a whole lot of time rehearsing all of this with her, his answer was ultimately a pretty simple one:

“We didn’t even go through lines together. We didn’t even talk about it, really. We didn’t really want to discuss it. We just wanted to play it on the day. In fact, we tried not to see each other on set that day. We just wanted to go through that bit together, because we’ve had such a wonderful journey together. We’ve enjoyed it so much.”

We’re very much going to miss the Ygritte character, even though she didn’t really have that much of a role on the latter portion of the series’ run. She was adventurous, interesting, and different from the other women in this world.
