2014 Emmys: ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ ‘Masters of Sex,’ ‘Hannibal’ favorites top CarterMatt Guest Actor nods

The latest -The guest actor categories are traditionally some of the most open-ended ones for the Emmys. There are hundreds of options, and much of it comes down to personal taste unless you have a case like when John Lithgow won for “Dexter,” and the winner is obvious to almost everyone.

We feel like when it comes the Guest Actor in a Drama Series category this year that there are actually a few favorites, but then some others that could be pretty up to each voter. We’ve got a little bit of this mixed in to out own nominee list, but given how many choices there are for these guest actors nods, we’re not going to bring any honorable mentions into the equation here.

Beau Bridges, “Masters of Sex” (Showtime) – Beau was in the show practically enough to be a regular, and one of the reasons why we feel like has has such a strong case for this is just because he made the Provost into this huge, sympathetic character despite his controversial moves at the University.

Chris Diamantopoulos, “Hannibal” (NBC) – We know that there are others campaigning for Michael Pitt for this show, as well, and we don’t blame them. But what Chris did here is similar in a way to his great work on “The Office”: He understood his part so perfectly, and played it in a way that made everyone around him even better. Plus, there was that horse scene. He probably deserves at least three Emmys just for going through that.

Pedro Pascal, “Game of Thrones” (HBO) – Pascal is an interesting candidate in that while people like Bridges have had months to linger in the minds of voters, the Red Viper is still completely fresh. That can work either for or against him, but he was one of the best characters the show has introduced ever. Just being able to make people so upset about (SPOILER ALERT) the death of Oberyn in a short span of time shows how good that he was.

Walton Goggins, “Sons of Anarchy” (FX) – We could watch an entire spin-off about Goggins as Venus Van Dam, even if we realize that would never happen given how much work it would take to do makeup on a weekly basis. This is such an awesome and well-written part made even better by the swagger the “Justified” star gives to her.

Joe Morton, “Scandal” (ABC) – Rowan is a terrible father, and he’s also a pretty terrible person. But, this makes him a great TV character. The more that we end up having of this guy on TV, the happier we are going to be at the end of the day. This is why we’re hoping that the cliffhanger finale does not ultimately spell bad news.

James Wolk, “Mad Men” (AMC) – Bob Benson’s part this season was short, but it was also extremely sweet. This character is so complicated and enthralling that we will personally try to open a Burger Chef and deliver food to Matt Weiner just to ensure he gets another episode.

As always, we want to hear who your favorite of this group is in the poll below! You can also head over to the link here to see the rest of our Emmy coverage, or click here to get more TV updates via our CarterMatt Newsletter.
