‘The Good Wife’ season 5 finale review: ‘A Weird Year,’ and Eli’s question to Alicia

The Good WifeThe finale scene of “The Good Wife” season 5 served up as a strange but in a way perfect ending to the 22 episodes that came before it. We had an interesting minute of reflection between Alicia and Eli, and also an offer that could push the show in a very new direction.

The simple question that closed off the episode and the season was a big one: Would we ever see Alicia run for State’s Attorney? We feel like this could be an interesting position for her, and there would be a variety of new people and places that would come to this. Plus, Alicia should already be more than familiar with the inner workings of the political system. If there is someone who is capable of such a run, it is her … right?

There were a variety of other important story points that also have to be remembered from this episode, including the reveal that allowed Diane to actually control her own future rather than be manipulated by Louis Canning, and also the understanding now that Kalinda and Alicia could be working together again soon. While this was no guarantee in the slightest that the two will be friends again, at least this finale set things in motion for that to happen again.(Now, let’s just pretend that Kalinda – Cary thing never happened.)

That was the interesting thing about this episode: It wasn’t necessarily jaw-dropping, but it didn’t need to. It found some other ways to keep us interested. Grade: B.
