‘The Crimson Field’ finale spoilers: First details on episode 6, Joan on trial
Next week on the BBC, you better be prepared to say goodbye to some familiar faces. “The Crimson Field” will be saying goodbye, and for many, it is going to feel for good reason like the series just really started to get going.
So why only have six episodes in your first season? We imagine that there are a number of different reasons for this, ranging from the fact that British shows in general have shorter years to the simple fact that the network probably wanted to start things off here with a smaller investment in a war series. This is not an easy sell for many viewers, and even in watching it, there are times when some events are very uncomfortable and difficult to watch.
As for what characters you need to be worried about the most going into this episode, we imagine that Joan is at the top of the list. Her feelings towards Anton are going to corrupt things severely for her, and she will be putting herself in danger just in order to keep him safe. The BBC released a rather-lengthy synopsis of this episode prior to Sunday’s episode airing, and you can see all of that below:
“Joan is hauled up on a charge of aiding the enemy and faces a possible lifetime in prison. She is desperate to protect Anton so tries to deflect the questions, even as Purbright arrives to drive them home harder. Meanwhile, the hospital is awash with the news of Joan’s treachery and Roland is directly in the firing line, accused of letting the rules slide and bringing the RAMC into disrepute. His position rests on a knife edge as old enemies close in.
“Kitty’s wracked with guilt that she knew about Joan but didn’t stop her, and she fears for her own position. She is desperate for someone to trust, but will it be Thomas or Miles that she turns to?
“Elsewhere, Flora discovers Peter’s brother, Jimmy, on one of the wards and happily reunites the siblings, but when it becomes clear that Jimmy is too fragile for war Peter has a difficult decision to make. Rosalie too is feeling conflicted, unsure how to deal with her discovery of Kitty’s divorce. Her instinct is to condemn, but the world is changing. Could one patient in particular hold the key to her liberation?
“Joan’s actions send ripples through the hospital. As night falls some rules will be broken and others upheld. As the war machine grinds on, faith, hope and love are put to the test.”
Hopefully, there will be a renewal announcement around the time of the finale. The show does well in the ratings, and we would be shocked to not see it back.
