2014 iHeartRadio Music Awards: Ariana Grande, Austin Mahone, Lorde among winners
Did you think that we really needed another music awards show? Well, we at the moment certainly question this ourselves, but we certainly have one courtesy of the iHeartRadio Music Awards. The show aired on NBC Thursday night, and gave competition to the Billboard Music Awards as the top awards show for artists in May. (Granted, there are tons of other months with music shows in them, as well.)
You can check out the full list of winners from this year’s show below, but we better warn you now that the majority of them are about as predictable as predictable can be.
Best Hip-Hop / R&B Song – Rihanna, “Pour It Up”
Best Collaboration – Pitbull feat. Kesha, “Timber”
Best Lyrics – Miley Cyrus, “Wrecking Ball”
Best New Artist – Lorde
Best Fan Army (otherwise the award that awards shows use now for social media traffic) – Rihanna Navy
Best Instagram (wait, this is an award?) – Austin Mahone
Young Influencer – Ariana Grande
Best Country Song – Blake Shelton, “Boys ‘Round Here”
Best Alternative Rock Song – Imagine Dragons, “Demons”
Song of the Year – Rihanna featuring Mikky Ekko, “Stay”
Best EDM Song – Avicii, “Wake Me Up”
Innovator Award – Pharrell
Artist of the Year – Rihanna
Clearly, Rihanna dominated the awards show with the majority of the wins, and we’ll leave the reaction on that up to you, given that we’re not a music site. All we will say is that this awards list looks like the same awards list that every other awards show gets, which in turn makes us wonder why there are so many of them. Eventually, you get so many awards that all of them start to blend together other than maybe the Grammys, the VMAs, the CMA Awards (if you’re a country artist), and the first award you get.
