‘Game of Thrones’ season 4 spoilers: First look at new throne for Emilia Clarke’s Dany
Even though Danaerys has been known as a Queen for quite some time on “Game of Thrones,” she has never exactly had a throne to call her own. As a matter of fact, the only “crown” that we have heard of when it comes to her character is the one that Drogo put on her brother during the first season.
But in a couple of weeks, this will change in the city of Meereen. We saw Dany officially conquer the city, and she is going to begin her rule shortly with a throne room and a chamber that is located at the top of a pyramid. This looks, based on the first-look photo from Entertainment Weekly (see below) like one of the coolest things that the show has ever put together … especially since all of it is real and there is no CG involved.
Speaking to the publication regarding how this set was constructed, showrunner David Benioff went into great detail:
“It was maybe the the biggest challenge [production designer] Deborah Riley faced and was probably the [set] we were most nervous about … It’s really easy to go into a big sci-fi territory. It’s really a testament to Deb. She designed both the audience chamber, where it’s a grand room where Dany sits on her bench, and her personal quarters at top of the pyramid — they’re just gorgeous. Incredibly experienced crew people were gasping.”
The throne looks incredible, but what we are equally excited about at the moment is merely that the show will allow Dany to have something a little different to do now beyond just traveling from one place to the next. Like all of the other rulers, she has a home base, and she can use Meereen to properly plot her next move as she looks towards Westeros.
